We officially launched LatinxVC (with new website 🤩) in August with the support of our Founding Sponsor, Silicon Valley Bank.
🧐 We launched our first-ever industry report of Latinx VC data. We aim to launch this data every year. Some key take aways included:
Despite the Latinx population comprising 19% of the US population, Latinx investment professionals comprise only 2% of total venture capital professionals and 2% of partner-level VCs at institutional VC firms.
The pipeline coming up the ranks at institutional venture capital firms is even worse as only 1% of non-partner level VCs are Latinx.
Most institutional venture capital firms have done little to improve these statistics as 86% of institutional VC firms have no Latinx investment professionals and only 2% of institutional VC firms have two or more Latinx VCs.
59% of Latinx venture capital professionals work at smaller VC funds.
🩺 We hosted LatinxVC Cafecito: Paths to Healthcare VC. The goal of this Cafecito series is to raise awareness and share information about the importance of increasing the representation of Latinos and Latinas in healthcare investing. In this Cafecito, our panelists Gladys Nunez 🇩🇴 (Director at Amgen Ventures), J.C. Lopez 🇨🇺 (Principal at NEA), and Juan-Pablo Mas 🇵🇷 (Partner at Action Potential VC) discussed Latinx representation in healthcare VC, the importance of Latinx investors in healthcare, and how you can get involved. If you missed it, you can check out the recording.
Earlier in the year we had a charla on the Future of Foodtech 🌮 with Noramay Cadena and Lisa Feria.
We hosted a LatinxVC Founding Manager Showcase on November with the goal of connecting capital to Latinx-led firms in the market. The event outlined the economic impact of 37 Latinx-led firms with potential AUM of $2.5B and showcased 10 GPs across regions, sectors, and strategies. Four in-person receptions in LA, SF, NY, and Chicago provided further opportunities for GPs and LPs to connect.
We launched two core programs: LatinxVC Fellowship and LatinxVC Mentorship Program. For the 8 week Fellowship, 22 fellows were part of the LatinXVC program where seasoned VCs help equip the candidates with insider knowledge on functional areas of venture capital. For our Mentorship program we had 30+ mentors matched with our associate and principal class of LatinxVCs.
We hosted Taco + Tequila night among many other events in Miami, San Francisco, Chicago, NYC and Los Angeles!
