LATINXVC FELLOWSHIP - UPDATE
We are thrilled to kick off the inaugural LatinxVC Fellowship “Breaking into Venture Capital”!
We received over 400 applications from an incredible group of individuals and accepted 22 individuals. The Fellows come from varied and diverse backgrounds that range from entrepreneurship, consulting, banking and just good old fashioned hustling. Over the next eight weeks we have speakers and content to help inform and prepare them for a career in venture capital.
We will be announcing the Fellows soon, and we are using this as a model to run regular semi-annual Fellowships to enable more of our Latino and Latina brothers and sister get into VC!
MOVERS AND SHAKERS
Ulu Ventures, led by Miriam Rivera (CEO, Cofounder, and MD), raised an incredible $138m for its third fund. Ulu now has more than $200m assets under management, and has made a name for itself with its focus on black and Latinx founders. Check out all the details here.
Los Angeles based and Latinx-owned Vamos Ventures raised $50m (double its initial target) to invest in Latinx and diverse tech entrepreneurs (there’s a pattern here!). Read all about it here and major congratulations to Marcos Gonzalez, Xavier del Rosario, Ashley Aydin, and Lidia Medina.

…and welcome Alessia Tachella to the ranks of LatinxVC, who has joined B37 ventures as an associate.

PAST EVENTS
Thanks to LatinxVC members Lisa Feria and Noramay Cadena for chatting with Rami Reyes and Maria Salamanca on April 15th about trends they’re excited about in food tech, such as new types of alternative meats and seafood, ways the food supply chain is becoming more direct, and how new culturally relevant foods are emerging.
While on the topic of food, LatinxVC partnered with Morrison & Foerster to host two virtual cooking events last week. Classically-trained Chef Sandra from Life at the Table guided us as we chopped inputs for salsa, made tortillas from scratch, and assembled tacos with custom seasonings. And no Tex-Mex meal would be complete without a margarita! We were sidetracked a few times sharing stories of all the crazy foods we've tried throughout Latin America. And there were definitely a few cameos from parents, partners, and children. Some people had a full restaurant operation going on. The feedback has been really good so we hope to do similar community events in the future!
